Company history and Staff

Tahoma Stud is located on Briar Hill Road in Lexington Kentucky. Just North and East of Downtown Lexington. Founded by Kate Lantaff and her family, Tahoma Stud takes its name from  the original Native American name for Mt.Rainer in Washington State. Ms. Lantaff has been involved in Thoroughbreds since the early 1970's. First as an exercise rider for the legendary trainer Charlie Whittingham and later as a bloodstock agent for the late John Franks, Ms. Lantaff has owned several farms in both Washington and Kentucky and is active in the California and Florida breeding industry as well. In 2003 Ms. Lantaff and her family consolidated and moved the majority of her breeding operations from California to Kentucky.

In 2004 Tahoma Stud was established with the acquisition of an existing 86 acre farm on Briar Hill Road. Assuming the role of farm manager was Otto Draper. Mr. Draper, a long term figure in California racing, training and sales, moved east in October of 2004 to continue his association with Tahoma Stud. Mr. Draper directs the day to day operations of the farm, the care of broodmares, foals and the sales prep of young horses. He manages a staff of 3 full time experienced personnel.

Ms. Lantaff's son Jake Lantaff, a 2007 graduate of the University of Kentucky has joined the family business as the resident matings specialist for both farm broodmares, and client bloodstock. Mr. Lantaff developed his interests in Thoroughbreds when he was in his early teens and graduated from the Equine Science program at the UK. He is involved in the syndication of race horse and breeding partnerships for the farm and with other entities in the United States and Australia.  He may be directly contacted by either phone or email.

1977 International Harvester with Imperator Horse Van. In 2008 the farm, under the direction of equipment manager, Corey Draper undertook the restoration of the farm's 77 IH Horse van. After a complete overhaul of all running components, the truck and van body were stripped, repaired, primed and painted with the farm's colors. The eye catching paint scheme and restoration provides the farm with a unique and safe means of transporting farm and client horses in the Lexington area.
